Manually uploading your data via the web
Access to the uploading facility is reached by clicking on the
`Edit data' icon at the top of every web page. This takes you to a
secure area in which you are asked to provide a user name and
password (this is to prevent people from editing or deleting data
that is not their own; take heed of the point about quality
assurance given earlier). Note that this heightened security means
that you cannot use the buttons provided by your web browser to
navigate among the pages; you must use the icons at the top of the
web pages themselves. If you break this rule, you will be prompted
to supply your password again (this prevents a third person from
opening your browser at a later date, and using the history to go
back to the editing pages and make changes to your data without you
knowing).
There are then two aspects to the data editing facility. One allows
you to edit data about your raingauge (as opposed to editing the
data collected by your raingauge). This information will be
displayed to anybody who clicks on your raingauge on the geographic
map. Full instructions and guidance on filling in these data are
provided on the screen; take heed of the warning about pressing the
`commit' button after you have entered anything or made changes on
the page. Your effort _will_ be wasted if you do not do this.
Clicking the icon at the top of the screen labelled `Edit rainfall
data' will take you to the second part of the data editing
facility. This page is broken into four areas which allow you to 1)
view some of the data already known to the RDMP site, 2) supply a
small number of data to be added to the site, 3) supply a range of
dates between which data are to be removed from the site (you should
only do this if the data are erroneous and need correcting), and 4)
an area where you can input data `en masse', in case you have a lot
of it and can process it yourself into a suitable form for
uploading. As before, full instructions are provided on the page for
using the various facilities.
